Report 2012

1. Aims and objectives.

Main:

a) Relief of poverty by advancement of education
b) Fund raising for good causes as aimed

Ancillary:

(a) advancement of education by supporting local educational institutions with finance and planning advice (only when it is sought by relevant authority).
(b) monitoring progress and development of the funded institutions.
(c) building bilateral relationship with our local leadership to help development.

2. Adopted policies (a) Necessity and priority (b) maximum benefit for majority number of people (c) transparency in actions and information (d) accountability to the NEWSUK (e) appropriate use of funds as aimed.

3. Our activities (performed) over 14 years

(a) In 1996 saved Noyabondor High School from closure, Initial fund of Tk 2,40, 000 towards teacher’s unpaid salary
(b) Followed by Tk 1, 20, 000 per year towards salary shortfall for 14 years, amounted to Tk 16, 80, 000.
(c) Building for girls common room, indoor toilets and tubewell in 1999 for Tk 7,00 000
(d) Installation of electricity in the Noyabondor High School – Tk 100, 000 in 2000.
(e) Boundary wall and gate in 2005 — Tk 9,00000
(f) Furnitures — desk, chairs, benches, and prayer materials – over 14 years Tk 5,00 000
(g) Noyabondor bazar’s mosque building Tk 12,00000
(h) Bereavement payment for Maulana Sajjadul Rahman in 2002 Tk 1,50, 000

Total: Tk 54, 70,000

4. Proposal for establishing a college in Noyabondor area was made in a meeting held in 01/07/2003 at Café Saj Restaurant. It was decided that Mr Abdul Ahad and Mr Enus Ali from London would conduct a site survey with the help of Mr M.A Latif and other local leaders to find suitable land for college and NEWS would raise funds. Plan did not go ahead, no response from local leadership.

However in 2012, NoyaBondor High School has been upgraded to a collegeate. NEWS UK helped to raise 16 Lac Taka for the project.
