Late individuals we remember with respect and pride
Late Abdul Bari Chowdhury: We know very little about MD A. Bari Chowdhury. He was born in the village Asharkhandi. He was the first elected chairman in the local board (MLA) during Pakistan period.
Jonab A. Bari was a good leader who tried to develop our area. He was the person who first drew the road map of Jogonathpur Syhlet road via Goalabazar. Unfortunately he did not live long enough to fulfil his mission. However the road we have now is the result of his vision to develop our area. May Allah grant him Zannath.
Late Alhaj Moulana Monuhor Ali Kobiri: Sheik Moulana Monuhor Ali was born in the village, Chora. We do not know much about his biography. What is most important to know about him is that he was the first person in the area to obtain an Islamic ‘Title’ degree from Deobon India (a most prestigious madrassa) during British rule. He had gone that far to achieve knowledge of Islam which made him very special in our area. After completion of his studies, he returned home and established a madrassa in his native village Chora. It was the first Madrassa in Jogonathpur and he was the principal of it. Many students from the Madrassa went on to become Islamic scholars during 1950 to 1970. For reasons unknown to us, he had closed the madrassa for few years and reopened it in 1978 and it is currently known as Chora Islamia Dakhil Madrassa. Pir Monuhor Ali was also a spiritual teacher who had thousands of followers (murid) in Syhlet. He used to deliver lectures in big religious gatherings. He was a good speaker and the most respected, pious and good mannered person in our area, and everyone loved him for his kindness and generosity.
Late MD. Ismail Kazi: Ismail Kazi was born in the village Tilok during British rule, we know very little about this unsung man. However, he was a noble man who used to help poverty stricken people of the area. He was forward thinking and always used to try and help others in difficult times.
The great thing for which he should be remembered is that he was one of the founders of the high school established between 1960 and 1965 in Tilok. Unfortunately, it was closed due to funding problems and mismanagement. The school building was converted to residential house, which was the home of the late Assodor Kazi of Tilok, we remember this great man who tried to develop our area.
Late MD. Wazibullah master: We do not have the biography of master Wazibullah. He was born in Johir Pur during British rule. He was the most honest, educated and outspoken person in our area. He was a teacher in Khuzki pur high school during Pakistan rule and worked there until he had migrated to England. The great aspect of his character was that he was a good mediator (judge of village Ponchaite) of dispute and conflict in our area. He was well known for his logical resolution of disputes, and people used to call on him from distant villages for mediation. He was also a good politician who took an active role in the liberation movement of Bangladesh in 1970 by raising funds to support independence of Bangladesh. MD. Wazibullah was also the inspiration of founding Noyabondor High School in 1975. He encouraged local influential persons to come forward and he supported the mission morally and financially to establish the school. By his sudden death, we have lost a great leader in our area and we remember him with great respect.
Donors of land for Noyabondor High School and college:
When we talk about our Noyabondor School we should remember the great men of our area who have donated their land to establish the school. Without their donations we would not have been able get our school. Among these unsung individuals, the first person who had offered his land was late Alhaj Abdul Warid, also known as Haji Konatakur of Johi Pur village. He was the father of our senior member Alhaj Abdul Wahab Monor Miah and community personality Jonab Abdul Samad Rana Miah. Jonab Abdul Warid donated thirty decimals of land.
Other individuals who donated land include:
Late Alhaj Abdul Salam Chowdhury also known as Mr Tuta Miah who donated 15 decimals of land
Late Shah Modossir Ali (ex UP chairman) donated 30 decimals of land.
Late Alhaj Abdul Noor donated 15 decimals of land
Lastly, Mrs Aulad Miah (wife of late Aulad Miah) donated 7 decimals of land
Total land donated equalled to 97 decimals of land and all who donated were from the village of Johir Pur. We are very proud of them and pray to Allah for their magfirath and may Allah grant them zannath.
Late Shah Modossir Ali Manik Miah: Born in Johir Pur during British rule , he was a well-known and famous individual in our area and was the most influential person. He had been the elected UP chairman for several terms. He was directly involved in the establishment of Noyabondor Bazar and subsequently the Noyabondor High School. It is undeniable that it would not have been possible to establish the Noyabondor Bazar or High School without his support and involvement. He was the chairman of the committee of the school for many years and also donated 30 decimals of land for the school. During his chairmanship, the roadwork planned by late Abdul Bari started and some bridges and culberts were partially built as the liberation movement stopped the projects from proceeding. However some works were carried out during his lifetime. He was an influential local politician who was well known in our upozilla. We remember him with respect.
Late MD Kolomdor Ali: Born in Holim Pur, it was known to all that he was a close companion of Jonab Manik Miah chairman. He was the first secretary of the then newly established Noyabondor Bazar. He used to spend most of his time in Noyabondor Bazar during his lifetime. He was a selfless and much loved person in our area. He was the first person who proposed to establish a high school in Noyabondor area. As a result of his expression of need for a high school, the great men of our area, namely, Jonab Modossir Ali Manik Miah, Late Jonab Wazibullah master, Jonab Haji Abdul Warid and late Jonab Rahman Ullah and others had come forward and established Noyabondor High School in 1975. Kolomdor Ali was a great inspiration behind the foundation of NEWSUK. He never hurt anyone in his lifetime and we remember this selfless person with utmost respect.
Late Abdul Kayum Chowdhury: Late AK Chowdhury of village Chora was the first headmaster of Noyabondor High School. He had joined the newly established high school while he was enjoying his retirement. AK Chowdhury was working as a high school teacher in Sunamgonj until his retirement. He had good experience needed to run a new school properly. For a new school, it was very important to have an individual with good knowledge and experience, a need which he fulfilled. He had taught in Noyabondor high school for nearly five years. Furthermore he was the father of late Jonab Waliul Kayum Chowdhury, who was also the headmaster of Noyabondor high school until his retirement.
Late Waliul Kayum Chowdhury: Born in Chora, he was the eldest son of the first headmaster of Noyabondor high school, the late Abdul Kayum Chowdhury. WK Chowdhury worked in our school until his retirement. He was a man of strong principles. When he joined, the school was going through difficult times. He had taken the challenge to face the problems and kept the school open with the help of the then well organised management committee in 1996. When NEWSUK was formed, he maintained good liaison with NEWSUK and tried hard to save the school from imminent closure. He was a learned man and ideal teacher. We remember him with pride and respect.
Late Abu Khaled Chowdhury: Born in Asharkhandi, he was highly educated individual who worked as an assistance professor in Syhlet MC college for several years. He gave up his teaching job after getting involved in politics and started work as an advocate. He had contested in MP elections with negative outcome. However he was the first elected Upozilla Chairman of Jogannathpur and served for two terms. He had built Abdul Bari community centre in Noyabondor Bazar through government funding, which is currently being used by NEWSUK as local office and service centre. We remember him with respect.
We also respectfully remember:
Late Jonab Firus Miah Kabiri of Chora who served our area as UP (Union Parishod) member.
Late Jonab Abdul Motib of Soncho Pur who served as an UP member and contested once for UP chairman.
Late Jonab Kolim Ullah of Asharkhandi who served as an UP member
The individuals who have tried and still trying to make the Noyabondor area a better place are many and we sincerely acknowledge their selfless work. Unfortunately, it is not possible to mention all of them, therefore we’d like to mention in this page, some of the inspirational individuals of our area:
Mr Abdul Lotif:
Mr Lotif was born in Johir Pur, he is a highly educated person in our area, he has studied in England for many years and is a well-known individual in the Noyabondor area. Mr Lotif did not seek any employment in the public or private sector, but has been living his life as self-employed. As a result, he has been serving our local area in one way or another. The most important thing about Mr Lotif is his contribution towards Noyabondor high school. He’s taken an active role in the founding of the Noyabondor high school in 1975. He was the inspiration behind the school and he has even worked there as an honorary teacher in the beginning. Since 1975, Mr Lotif has been a devoted friend of Noyabondor high school. He was the person, at that time who worked hard in obtaining the approval from the education board for Noyabondor high school. He has served once as the chairman of the managing committee. Even when he is not in the committee, he still takes good care of the school. Mr Lotif attends almost every event or occasion in our area. He tries his best to help others as much as he can . Because of his selflessness and care for others, everybody adores him and treats him with great respect.
Mr Gulan Rabbani Chowdhury (Ana):
Mr Rabbam was born in Katalkhair village. He is a friendly person to younger individuals of our area. He used to write poems, rhymes and collect proverbs from older men and women in the area. Mr Rabbani had worked as an honorary teacher in Noyabondor high school for several years from the start. It is the right thing to recognise his selfless service to our school at an early stage.
Mr Eklimur Raja Chowdhury (Zitu Miah):
Mr Zitu Miah was born in the village of Asharkhandi. He has been a very selfless person in our area and has served our area for years. The great thing about him is that he allowed to use his residential block as Noyabondor high school in 1975. The school started in his house and was there for several months. Mr Zitu Miah was a well wisher of Noyabondor High School, when our school was in difficulties in 1996. He was the vice chairman of the strong management team. Recently Mr Zitu Miah is not being seen around , but once he used to be present at each and every event or occasion. He has served our area in many ways. He seems to be withdrawn most likely due to ill health. We wish him good health.
Mr Dinnul Islam Babul:
Mr Babul was born in Johir Pur and is a very well-known person in our area. He is a journalist, columnist and community leader in Noyabondor area. He is the ex UP chairman of Asharkhandi union Parishod. In the difficult days of Noyabondor high school during 1995-1996, Mr Babul was the chairman of the management committee. He dedicated his time and experience and had brought the school in a stable and sound state. He was the main inspiration in forming NEWSUK to support the school. He has maintained good and effective communications with NEWSUK. Mr Babul was a good organiser of teamwork and with his team of local personalities, namely Mr Zitu Miah, Mr Goyasur Rahman Sunder Miah, Mr Kolomdor Ali (late), Mr A. Samad Rana Miah and others, he managed to improve the overall conditions of NoyaBondor high school. Recently, it seems that Mr Babul has withdrawn from the line of community work.
We must say he is capable of giving good services to our local people. He has become silent. It is not important what we have got from our society, rather it is important what we have given. So we expect Mr Babul to do what he is able to do. When we remember Mr Babul from abroad, we always remember Mr Zitu Miah, Mr Goyasur Rahman, Mr Rana Miah and late Kolomdor Ali. These were the strong individuals who worked hard with Mr Babul to save Noyabondor School from closure.
Alhaj Abdul Ahad:
Alhaj Abdul Ahad was born in Johir Pur village and he had spent his early days there. After migrating to England, he had moved to KatalKhair village and subsequently, he had started to live with his family in Syhlet town and ultimately has been settled there. Mr Ahad is known to everyone in Noyabondor area, but he is not living there. So why should he be remembered, would be a good question.
The answer to such a question is that when someone does something extraordinary, recognition should be given to his work. Many individuals from our area have moved to towns where life is comfortable and better facilities are available. Therefore when people move they often do not go back to their native area, nor do they try to improve their area. Mr Ahad however is an exception. Whilst his children and grandchildren may never live in our area, Mr Ahad regularly goes to our area to share our concerns, griefs and happiness. He always tries to do something for the area. We acknowledge his direct involvement and contributions towards Noyabondor high school, Noyabondor college and the development of our area. He is the most charitable and generous person in our area. Currently Mr Ahad has been serving as chair of the management committee of Noyabondor school and college. He is the founder, trustee and founding chairman of Jogonattpur British Bangla Education Trust. He is also involved with many charitable organisations in both England and Bangladesh. To conclude, one thing which we must say is that the selfless acts and generosity of Mr Ahad should be recognised and honoured. Otherwise people will lose interest in doing good deeds for the benefits of others. Because a man is judged by what he does in his life.
Alahj Ustar Miah:
Another extraordinary man in our area is Alhaj Ustar Miah. He was born in Johir Pur village. He is a simple hearted generous person who has made very many contributions towards Noyabondor high school. Most recently he made a big donation to our school and college. From the birth of Noyabondor high school, he has been making remarkable donations. He always takes part in any development activity in our area and always comes up with bigger donations.
The remarkable work of Mr Ustar Miah is the establishment of brickfield in our area which has helped a lot in the economic development of our area by creating many jobs. As a result, many unemployed local people gained jobs in his brickfield. Furthermore it also led to some skilled workers from outside the area to come and work in our area which helps many local businesses. Whilst it is his private business, it is helping the local economy and social structure as an industrial area. Nearly three hundred people work in his brickfield.
We respect the vision and mission of Mr Ustar Miah.
Alhaj Enus Ali:
Mr Enus Ali was born in kakboli village and he is settled in Syhlet town. Although he is living in town and has no tie with his native village, he still comes back to his roots to do something for his local people. Mr Enus has been participating in many development activities in the area. He always makes big donations for the school and other good causes. In transforming the school into a college, he made a very big donation. Mr Enus Ali has made biggest donation in building a mosque in his village Kakboli. Also he has taken active role in securing government funding to build the bridge on the river Itakhola. He has built a mokhtob on his land by his own fund without any external support. We appreciate his donations and contributions for our area.
Mr Abdul Hannan:
Mr Hannan was born in Johir Pur village, he spent his early years in England but has been living in his native village for several years. He has established some local businesses which is helping the local economy. We would like to acknowledge the tireless efforts of Mr Hannan in establishing Noyabondor college. Because, people pf Noyabondor including NEWSUK were dreaming to establish a college in the area. However our mission remained incomplete. Then came the year 2012 when the people of our area stood up and became determined to establish our dream college with the help of some extraordinary people. Mr Hannan is one of these extraordinary people. Not only has he made a big donation, he has worked hard day and night to make the mission a success. He has taken a leading part in the fund-raising and in the building of the college compound.
We expect Mr Hannan to do more social work for our area.
Finally, we’d like to write about and acknowledge two retired high ranking government officials who have helped us to fulfil our dream to establish a college in Noyabondor. They are Mr Sirajul Islam Kobiri, also known locally as Mr Angur Miah and Mr Abdul Hye.
Mr Sirajul Islam Kobiri was born and brought up in Chora. After completing his studies up to the highest level, he started his career as a civil servant in the postal department. He became retired as a joint secretary, a highest post in the public service. Apparently, Mr Islam was occupied by his job in Dhaka, therefore he would not visit our area frequently. However after retirement, he has chosen to live in his native village to share things with his local people. When Noyabondor college was established in 2012, Mr Islam had worked hard with full attention to fulfill that mission. We appreciate his selfless act for our area. We expect Mr Islam to give more attention to upgrade our area.
Mr Abdul Hye, was born and brought up in Tilok. He had started his career as a civil servant and at the time of his retirement he was promoted to the joint secretary post. Mr Abdul Hye was working in Dhaka, he was occupied with his job and thus was unable to give much attention towards our area during his employment. After retirement, Mr Hye visits our area frequently and meet and greets local people. Noyabondor college was established in 2012, Mr Hye has taken an active role and has worked selflessly and jointly with Mr Sirajul Islam. It has been possible to get the government approval for the college in very short time because of these high ranking retired sons of our area. We appreciate his support for our area and expect him to give more time and efforts to upgrade and develop our area where he had been raised from childhood to a big officer.
